This 8-day itinerary is designed to give students a focused experience in Costa Rican leadership, activism, culture, and politics. During several non-profit visits, students will learn about empowerment projects for young girls, meet with leaders working to support female migrants, and speak with female environmentalists. Students will meet with government officials who develop and coordinate policies that fight domestic and gender-based violence. They will compare and contrast the challenges women face in Costa Rica with those in their home country, fostering a broader understanding of gender dynamics around the world.

Day 1

Arrival to San Jose. Orientation and welcome dinner.

Day 2

Walking tour of San Jose. Workshop with an independent project aimed at disseminating practices generated by women and non-binary people.

Day 3

Visit to a non-profil aimed at empowering girls and adolescent women to prevent all types of gender-based violence. Site Visit to National Women’s Institute.

Day 4

Visit to the Mercado Central. Site visit to learn about Nicaraguan migration to Costa Rica.

Day 5

Hike to a scenic overlook. Ziplining adventure.

Day 6

Site visit to a non-profit association for Women’s Rights in Guanacaste

Day 7

Beach morning. Guest lecture with female Climate Activists. Farewell dinner.

Day 8

Departure.
