This 8-day program immerses students in the Amazonian forest ecology and cultural heritage of the Belém region in Brazil. Activities include a city tour of Belém, visits to cocoa and açaí farms on Combu Island, and a Stand Up Paddle adventure in a flooded forest. The program continues with a hands-on cultural and ecological exploration of Marajó Island, including interactions with local buffalo farming, artisanal fishing, and mangrove crab harvesting. The experience concludes with an educational session at the Federal University of Pará, offering deep insights into the Amazon's ecosystem and research activities.

Day 1

Arrival to Belém. Tour of the historic center. Orientation and welcome dinner.

Day 2

Day trip to Combú Island. Demonstration of Açaí and Brazil nut extraction.Free time.

Day 3

Stand Up Paddle excursion through the Carapuru River. Free time.

Day 4

Sail through the Amazon River estuary. Hands on experience with the local buffalos of Marajó Island. Carimbó Performance and party.

Day 5

Day trip to Pesqueiro Village. Interactions with Artisanal, hand-line fishing, and cast net fishing. Free time.

Day 6

Visit to a century-old tannery. Visit the Mãos Caruana's Institute. Adventure with the local water buffaloes.

Day 7

Lecture about the Amazon at local university in Belém. Farewell dinner.

Day 8

Departure.
