This 16-day Ecuador program offers students a rich blend of cultural immersion and ecological exploration. Highlights include visits to indigenous communities, historic sites like Ingapirca ruins, adventurous activities such as zip-lining, and optional exploration of the Galapagos Islands. Through these experiences, students gain insights into Ecuador's diverse heritage, environmental conservation efforts, and cross-cultural communication.

Itinerary 

Day 1

Arrival to Quito

Day 2

Orienation. Day trip to Otavalo and Cotacachi to meet with nonprofit organization. Welcome diner.

Day 3

City Tour of Quito. Activity with students from a local University.

Day 4

Tour of Cotopaxi National Park

Day 5

Tour of a community to learn about farming and cultural traditions. Lunch with local leader. Weaving demonstration.

Day 6

Zip-line over the jungle. Transfer to Guamote. Conversation with non-profit leader.

Day 7

Visit to the Llama history museum. Short guided hike including local myths and legends.

Day 8

Conversation with local entrepreneur. Guided visit to Ingapirca ruins.

Day 9

City tour of Cuenca. Visit to the Pumapungo Museum of ethnography and art. Dance class.

Day 10

Sunday Markets in artisan communities near Cuenca.

Day 11

Guided hike in Cajas National Park. Visit to a cacao plant.

Day 12

Transfer to Puerto Ayora. Free time to explore Puerto Ayora.

Day 13

Bartolome Island Day Trip. Snorkel tour.

Day 14

Visit to El Chato Tortoise Reserve. Lava Tunnels exploration. Visit to Puerto Ayora Fish market.

Day 15

Water transfer and and short hike to Las Grietas swimming hole. Hike to Tortuga Bay Beach. Farewell dinner.

Day 16

Transfer to Milgaro.

Day 17

Departure

Optional 5 day visit to the Galapagos Islands, focused on ecology, conservation, climate change, and or biology.
