This 9-day Panama program offers students a deep dive into Portobelo's rich Afro-Panamanian culture, designated by UNESCO. Activities include workshops on drumming, dance, mask-making, and Caribbean cooking, alongside visits to Embera Quera community and the Panama Canal Miraflores Locks. Through interactive experiences and guided tours, students will explore the region's history, cultural traditions, and natural beauty, fostering discussions on sustainability and cultural preservation.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival to Portobelo and orientation.
Day 2
Church service at Iglesia de San Felipe. Historical tour of Portobelo. Free time and welcome dinner.
Day 3
Workshop with Congo dance group. Transport to beach with calm waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
Day 4
Drumming workshop with a local organization. Free time for exploration.
Day 5
Costume making workshop with a professionnal mask maker. Cooking workshop.
Day 6
Painting workshop with local artist. Ride the Diablo Rojo, a remodeled school bus, to a nearby beach.
Day 7
Visit the Indigenous community of Embera Quera. Visit to the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal. Free time

Hike in Parque Metropolitano. Free time and farewell dinner.
