Program Highlights

  • Visit studio of an important contemporary artist

  • Peer to peer activity with local college students

  • Learn about Harlem’s rich history from one of its longtime residents

Starting with sites related to the area's original inhabitants, and progressing to explore the history of immigrants and African Americans in New York, students will gain insight to the many layers of complexity in New York’s social fabric and its “creation myth.” Art, memorial, and theater will play an important role in this conceptual journey. Meetings with contemporary artists and college peers will likely prove to be the highlights of the visit.
