This program in rural Panama gives students the opportunity to learn about sustainable construction through hands-on projects led by Panamanian hosts and a local Peace Corps volunteer.

Program Highlights

  • Visit the Panama Canal

 Students also tour several examples of sustainable architecture, visit the Panama Canal, and enjoy undeveloped beaches and time in Panama City’s historic city center. 

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrive to Las Tablas, travel to rural community to participate in a sustainable construction project

Day 2

Travel to community for a construction day with local residents, celebration 

Day 3

Take a surf lesson, optional guided hike, mangrove stand up paddle board tour, or day trip to nearby fishing village and surf town

Day 4

Early morning fishing trip, free time

Day 5

Architecture tour, guided visit to permaculture farm, discussion on the concepts and principles of permaculture and sustainable agriculture, free time 

Day 6

Peace Corps-led construction project, visit to local swimming hole

Day 7

Architect-led tour of historic building, visit to the Panama Canal Locks and Museum, free time, farewell group dinner
